The ACA is privedged to have the following patrons to help and support the association and its objectives in the wider health and political arenas.
Rosemary Kennedy CBE
Chief Nursing Officer for the Welsh Assembly
Rosemary Kennedy joined the Civil Service as Chief Nursing Officer to the then Welsh Office at the end of January 1999. This post is one of the four UK Chief Nursing Officer posts supporting Government administration. After completion of her state registration nurse training at St George’s Hospital, London, on the 2+1 experimental course, Rosemary went on to gain further qualifications including midwifery, neurosurgical nursing, district nursing, MSc in research and evaluation and Diploma in Nursing from the University of London, specialising in gerontology.
She has held a variety of senior management posts including Director of Nursing Services for both community services and acute services and general management posts. Her previous post was that of Executive Nurse Director at Addenbrookes. Rosemary also has a distinguished career in the Territorial Army.
As CNO Rosemary inspires and leads the nursing and midwifery professiona in Wales.
Rosemary provides advice to the First Minister, the Secretary of State for Wales and to the Assembly Ministers.
Rosemary has been responsible for a number of initiatives including Free to Lead Free to Care: Empowering Ward Sisters.. Under this initiativesisters and charge nurses in hospitals have been given more power to improve ward cleanliness, the standards of care and to protect patients’ meal times.
Rosemary received her CBE from the HM the Queen in 2009 and in the same month approved Rosemary’s investiture as a member of the Order of St John.
Professor Roger Feneley
Emeritus Consultant Urologist
Roger is a retired urologist who worked for many years at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. He was one of the instigators of urodynamics, and first consultant to back the appointment of a continence advisor (Janet Blannin). Since retirement he has been working to raise money to set up the Biomed centre – a partnership of research & industry aimed at improving catheter management/finding alternatives.
